| Aktivate is a free, end-to-end e-commerce solution developed for Linux and other Unices. It is targeted at small to medium sized businesses or charities who want to accept credit card payments over the web and conduct e-commerce. Aktivate has its own unique shopping cart and catalogue system that enables shoppers to search, browse and pick up goods from the virtual store. Once a shopper is ready to pay Aktivate securely captures their payment details, stores them for later pick up by the merchant and sends out an email to the shopper confirming their order. Aktivate can email the merchant when a certain number of transactions have been made or the merchant can drop by when it suits them. The merchant picks up the outstanding transactions, runs them through their existing Point of Sale device and then deletes them from Aktivate so that they are not double booked.
